Professor Mgbako Honored by National Law Journal

Professor Chi Mgbako was chosen today as one of the “Minority 40 Under 40” by the National Law Journal for her work with the Walter Leitner International Human Rights Clinic. The forty individuals selected by the Journal are all exemplary lawyers at their firms, in government, public interest, and academia. Professor Mgbako’s leadership of the Human Rights Clinic has provided incredibly opportunities for Fordham Law Students to develop practical experience in international human rights law.

The Walter Leitner Human Rights Clinic was established in 2007 at the Leitner Center for International Law and Justice. The Clinic aims to train a new generation of human rights lawyers and to inspire results-oriented, practical human rights work throughout the world. The Clinic’s work in partnership with non-governmental organizations and foreign law schools has resulted in numerous projects ranging from scholarship, to legal and policy analysis, mobile legal aid clinics, fact-finding and report writing, human rights trainings, public interest litigation, and submissions before human rights bodies. This semester, students are working on numerous projects relating to women’s rights in Africa, including advocating for the decriminalization of sex work in South Africa and running a domestic violence legal clinic in Malawi.
