Term-time Internships

The Internship Program offers academic-term internships, through which participating students receive $2000 to work part-time for ten weeks during the academic year. Students are placed at the United Nations, Human Rights Watch, Human Rights First, the New York City Bar Association's Human Rights Committee, or another human rights NGO. The Center now offers a Human Rights Clinical Externship course so that participating students can also get class credit for their academic term internships.

  1. What is it?
The Human Rights Internship Fund provides students with $2,000 in funding to participate in an international human rights-related internship during the spring term.

  2. What are the requirements?
Applicants must agree to work 140 hours over the course of the semester at a non-governmental organization, U.N. agency, or other organization working on international human rights issues. Applicants must find their own internship placements.

Past interns have worked at Human Rights First, the International Human Rights Committee of the New York City Bar Association, agencies of the United Nations, Human Rights Watch, Scholars at Risk, and the International Rescue Committee. Students may also apply to intern with other organizations working on international human rights issues.

Students who participate in this Internship Program are also encouraged to enroll in Clinical Externship: International and Domestic Human Rights Seminar in order to receive 2 credits for the internship. If you are interested in applying for an externship course (fieldwork and seminar), you must complete an Application for Course Registration. Please contact the Externship Program at Externships@law.fordham.edu to complete the necessary paperwork.
